NYC to Berlin collecting rare truffles: A Clusterfuck of musical gems.  It
germinated in the 5 borroughs of NYC & then moved globally , and is now on
offer to be mainlined ,100% pure concentrate, into the greedy veins of
Berlin .

live: POLKA MADRE (Mexico City - Finlandia)

Polka Madre entstand zu Beginn des Jahres 2006 in einer Lagerhalle in Coyoacan, Mexico City. Das Ziel war jüdische Musik zu spielen, wenngleich die Musiker kaum wussten, was das eigentlich ist. Nach Jahren des Musizierens in Mexico beschloss die Band auf Tour zu gehen. Dabei entstand eine Melange aus Stylen, die als "Gypsy-Klezmer-Latin-Finish-Punk" zusammengefasst werden kann. Sie arbeiteten und lebten als Band in Gemeinschaftsräumen von Mexico über New York City, Paris, Lappland bis Finnland und schliesslich in Berlin.

Polka Madre tourte dreimal durch die Vereinigten Staaten (2006 und 2008) und zweimal durch Europa (2007 und 2009). Unter anderem spielten Sie beim SXSW-Kunstfestival in Austin, Texas, waren Headliner auf der Womex (WOrldMusicEXpo), auf dem Glastonbury Festival in Großbritannien und tourten mit dem legendären Songwriter und Sänger Tuomari Nurmio.

Im Jahr 2007 wurden die Band durch die Visual artists Pekka and Teija Isorattya erweitert, welche die Bühnenkunst für Shows entwickeln. Mittlerweile spielen auch sie Trompete und Posaune in der Band. Die anderen Bandmitglieder sind Eric Bergmann (Gesang, Gitarre), Marina de Ita (Akkordeon, Keyboard), Enrique Perez(Sopran-und Bassklarinette), Raymundo Vera (Drums und Cajon) und Sergio Garcia (Tuba).

Es gibt bereits zwei Studioalben: Casa Donde (Criminal Records, 2007) 

und Dead in the Eye (Straight Songs, 2010). Das Zweitere wurde in den Vibromonk Studios in New York City aufgenommen (Gogol Bordello, Balkan Beat Box, Firewater) und in Mexiko mit einer auf der Europatour gefilmten DVD veröffentlicht.

Gegenwärtig residiert die Band in Berlin, Deutschland und arbeitet an ihrem dritten Studioalbum.
