live: THE SUNPILOTS (Rock/Alternative - AUS)

The Sunpilots’ released their debut album Living Receiver late last year, earning the band an ‘Indie Album of the Year’ and two ‘Indie Album of the Week’ awards from music press. Described by one journalist as “poetic rock with the energy of Pearl Jam and the dark undertone of Radiohead”, tracks from Living Receiver have aired on radio (Triple J, FBi, RRR, PBS, 4ZzZ and RTR) and TV (Rage, Channel V, Video Hits) around the country.

This laid the foundation for three Australian tours, an iTunes Single of the Week and a MusicOz Producer’s Award. The Sunpilots have also begun turning heads overseas, with several tracks being picked up by college radio in North America. The resulting buzz has led to a Best International Artist award at the Toronto Independent Music Awards and an International Songwriting Competition and LA Music Awards nomination.

In April this year, the boys headed into the studio and began writing and demoing for album no. 2. According to frontman Raj Siva-Rajah, “we’ve really started to figure out exactly what “our sound” is – and it’s evolved a fair bit from Living Receiver. The new tracks take more of a cue from bands like Pink Floyd, The Who, radiohead, Incubus...”

The Sunpilots are taking a short break from writing in October / November for their 2009 Animals In My Mind Australian tour - which will give fans a preview of several new tracks from the yet unnamed sophomore album. Then it’s on to Asia for a run of festival dates, followed by Europe for some extended international touring.
