live: JACOB MILLER (Electro/Pop - US)

The glitz and pastels of Miami Beach seems like an
unfitting provenance for musician Jacob Miller, but the artist is making waves with
his haunting sound and socially-tinged lyrics, and he maintains that his city is his
muse: "There are so many different cultures coexisting and there's this pervasive
Latin and Caribbean vibe flowing through everything, not to mention a rich dance
music history; 70s disco, Miami Bass, IDM. All of this informs what happens here
musically and it finds its way into everything I do."Music was integrated into
Miller's life from an early age. "My father had an entire music room where he kept a
piano, guitar, harmonica, saxophone, clarinet, banjo and tambourine." He sites
receiving his first synthesizer at age 14 as the moment when his childhood hobby
became his life's ambition. While attending high school for the performing arts,
Miller earned the superlative "most absent" due to the exorbitant amount of time he
spent in the studio. His acceptance to Berklee College of Music took Miller to
Boston to formally study songwriting, but like all his previous formal education
experiences, Miller was called away by a compulsive need to make his music. He
enlisted longtime friend and multi-grammy award winning engineer, Richard Serotta,
to help produced his debut LP, entitled Who We Are. Since it's release, Who We Are
has amassed support from fans and critics alike, ranking #5 most-added in college
radio and placing Miller among the top 10 most-requested artists on satellite radio.
Currently, Miller is at work on a self-produced EP due Fall 2010.
